Manchester City bid £2.5m for former Liverpool goalkeeper

Manchester City have submitted a £2.5m bid for Napoli goalkeeper Pepe Reina, signalling Claudio Bravo’s time at the club is coming to an end, reports The Guardian.

Pep Guardiola’s side have already made Benfica shot stopper Ederson the most expensive goalkeeper in British football history and the City boss is now looking to make Reina his back-up.

City only signed Bravo from Barcelona last summer but the Chile international has endured a nightmare time since touching down in England and now appears set to leave the club despite insisting he would fight Ederson for the No.1 jersey next season.

Reina has entered the final 12 months of his current Napoli deal and has been been locked in contract talks with the Serie A giants since the end of last season, although they are willing to let the Spain international return to England for a fee closer to £4.5m.

The 34-year-old played more than 250 times for Liverpool during a nine-year career that ended when he left to join Guardiola at Bayern Munich in 2014 on a permanent deal.

In the last two Serie A campaigns only Josip Posavec (7) has committed more errors that directly led to an opposition goal than Reina (5).
