WhoScored Tipster: Highest Rated Player Best Bets

There is hardly better value out there than in WhoScored's highest rated player markets, and where better to be given the inside scoop on the best bets for the upcoming weekend than on the website itself. Our match forecasts predict events using statistically calculated strengths and weaknesses of each team and here we take these, players' form and team's opponents to highlight those that could be good tips to win a man of the match award this weekend.

Wayne Rooney - 7/1

Much maligned this week in particular for the positive effect his withdrawal had in England's friendly win over Denmark, Rooney has a point to prove, and when he is in a situation like that - like when playing for a move away on the opening day of the season at Swansea - he is often at his very best. Up against an out-of-sorts West Brom team against whom he has 6 goals in his last 5 Premier League starts, there could be a Rooney backlash. The WhoScored match forecast says it is likely that United will score as from a direct free-kick, for which Rooney is their man. He might not have been on the best of form recently, but that can't go on all the way to the World Cup, can it?

Robert Lewandowski - 9/2

The match forecast for Borussia Dortmund's upcoming clash with Freiburg predicts that Jürgen Klopp's side will completely dominate the tie, and Lewandowski will be the host's main worry. The Poland international has 6 goals, 2 assists and 4 man of the match awards in his last 6 Bundesliga and Champions League games and Freiburg might well become the latest team he dispatches. WhoScored states as 'very likely' that Dortmund will dominate in the air and score from a set piece situation, both of which fit with key aspects of Lewandowski's game. Freiburg commit a lot of errors and Dortmund are tipped to profit, with the clinical Lewandowski ready and waiting for any chances that drop his way.

WhoScored Tipster: Highest Rated Player Best Bets

Patrick Bamford - 14/1

The on-loan Chelsea youngster has been in fantastic form since moving to Derby, scoring 5 goals in 9 appearances from his right-wing berth. Derby have won 8 of their last 9 home Championship matches and this week host a Millwall side who have conceded more away goals (35) than any other team in the league, despite playing a game less than most on the road. They have also won none of their last 7 matches and this weekend certainly doesn't look like the time that their poor form will end. Bamford has developed 'long shots' as 'very strong' amongst his statistically calculated strengths, and WhoScored predicts Derby scoring a long shot and from a wing play situation. There could be goals galore and Bamford will be on hand to benefit.

Raffael - 9/2

Gladbach's Brazilian forward has no fewer than 8 WhoScored strengths (and only 1 weakness) and his recent form has certainly helped those develop. He has scored or set up a goal in each of his last 3 matches and he has been awarded man of the match in 2 of those. Up against Augsburg this weekend, the match forecast says Gladbach will score as a result of individual skill, and with Max Kruse lacking form, they will look to Raffael - who completes 5.3 successful dribbles per game - for inspiration. Gladbach have been below par of late but still retain the second best home record in the Bundesliga and should, at the very least, score and Raffael could well be central to that.

Adel Taarabt - 7/1

With WhoScored predicting that a somewhat resurgent Milan will dominate at Udinese this weekend, Taarabt could play a key role having astounded many with his performances since moving to Serie A. He many only have made 4 appearances but he is Milan's top rated player (7.67) and already has 1 man of the match award. The match forecast says Milan have a good chance of scoring a long shot, as a result of individual skill and from a set piece situation. Taarabt boasts long shots, dribbling and taking set-pieces as strengths to his game and, still playing for an extension to his deal that ends in the summer, is great value to stand out this weekend.
