First Leg

Sevilla took an early lead against Borussia Dortmund in Seville last month as Suso's effort squirmed past Marwin Hitz. However, when it seemed that Sevilla would extend their winning run, Suso's goal merely angered the Dortmund beast. Erling Haaland took control, providing the assist for Mahmoud Dahoud to thump in an equaliser past Bono.

Haaland then bagged his first and Dortmund's second midway through the first half before adding another shortly before the break. Sevilla responded, with Julen Lopetegui reverting to a three-man defence, and they were rewarded as Luuk de Jong halved the deficit with six minutes of normal time to play.

The LaLiga side were unable to draw level, but it leaves this last-16 tie finely poised ahead of tonight's second leg.

Team News

Edin Terzic will hope to recover Giovanni Reyna after the youngster sat out Der Klassiker on Saturday, but the Borussia Dortmund boss is without Jadon Sancho, Marcel Schmelzer and Axel Witzel. A late decision will be made on Raphael Guerreiro, however Erling Haaland should be fit to start after being forced off against Bayern Munich on Saturday. Roman Burki made the bench in the 4-2 defeat and Terzic may elect to bring the Dortmund number one back into the side here.

In the Sevilla camp, Julen Lopetegui rested a number of key starters against Elche at the weekend and should go with his strongest possible XI for the trip to Germany. Aleix Vidal is ruled out, while Lucas Ocampos will be assessed as the Argentine continues to struggle with an ankle knock. Lopetegui switched his side to a three-man backline at the break in the first leg and may elect to continue with that setup after it worked to good effect.

Key Battle - Marco Reus vs Papu Gomez

Champions League team news and prediction: Borussia Dortmund vs Sevilla

Marco Reus has struggled in both domestic and continental competition this season, but bagged his first Champions League assist of the season in the reverse fixture having provided the second of Erling Haaland's two goals. Five of his six assists in both league and Champions League action this season have come in 2021, so there are signs that the Borussia Dortmund captain is getting back to his best.

Papu Gomez hasn't had quite the impact many expected when he joined from Atalanta in January. Indeed, the Argentine has directly contributed to just one goal for Sevilla, that coming in their 3-0 win over Getafe last month. The creative star was fairly anonymous in the first leg so will hope to up his game in Germany.
