Aubameyang headlines three Barcelona stars among top rated January signings

There were a number of high profile transfers completed in January, with Barcelona one of the busiest sides on the continent. The La Liga powerhouse have looked all the better for their new arrivals and it shows as WhoScored rank the best rated January signings of those to have made at least five appearances for their new employers, with the Spanish giants featuring prominently.

10. Dejan Kulusevski (Tottenham) - 7.10 

Dejan Kulusevski has quickly gotten to grips with the demands of English football, rapidly forging an excellent relationship with Son Heung-Min and Harry Kane in attack. Despite his arrival on deadline day, only Son (18) and Kane (17) have had a direct hand in more league goals than Kulusevski (6) of all Spurs players in the Premier League this season. The 21-year-old is already a fan favourite in north London and his performances have yielded a WhoScored rating of 7.10, that the 10th best of the European January transfers. 

9. Dani Alves (Barcelona) - 7.13 

Technically signed in November, it wasn't until January that Barcelona could register Dani Alves and it is as though he never left Camp Nou. No Barcelona player is making more key passes per game than Alves (2.2) this season and that has translated to two assists for the Blaugrana, a return that should be higher. A return of two tackles per game is the second best of all current Barcelona players and the Brazilian's fine work both on and off the ball has seen him earn a WhoScored rating of 7.13.

8. Giovani Lo Celso (Villarreal) - 7.13 

Interestingly, Giovani Lo Celso worked under more managers (5) than he directly contributed to league goals (4) following his 2019 move to Tottenham and having failed to leave a lasting impression under Antonio Conte, it was no surprise to see the Argentine return to Spain. Lo Celso hasn't struggled to get back up to speed in La Liga, impressing under Unai Emery for Villarreal with a WhoScored rating of 7.13 the third best for the Yellow Submarine. 2.6 successful dribbles per game is the best of all Villarreal players as he provides that drive from the middle of the park for Emery's side. 

7. Ruben Alcaraz (Cadiz) - 7.25 

Not a headline grabbing capture like others in this rundown, but Ruben Alcaraz has proven a shrewd loan signing from Real Valladolid. With Cadiz seeking to beat the drop, Alcaraz has excelled in the middle of the park with a WhoScored rating of 7.25 far and away the best of all players for the Pirates. Two league goals is the fourth most for the Spanish side, while no Cadiz player is making more tackles per game than the 30-year-old (2.9). 

6. Jonas Wind (Wolfsburg) - 7.25 

Coinciding with the departure of Wout Weghorst, Wolfsburg spent the money brought in by the Dutchman's move to Burnley to acquire Jonas Wind from Danish outfit Copenhagen. Wind may have had a direct hand in just three goals in seven league outings, netting twice, but he has quickly filled a physical void left in the wake of Weghorst's January exit. Five aerial duels won per league game is more than any other Wolfsburg player and it won't be long before the 23-year-old puts up consistent numbers in front of goal as he ranks first for shots (2.4) and third for key passes per game (1.3) for the Wolves. 

5. Ferran Torres (Barcelona) - 7.26 

Despite joining at the beginning of January, Ferran Torres' return of seven goals and assists combined ranks fifth of all Barcelona players in La Liga this season. It didn't take long for Torres to make his mark back in Spain with Barcelona unbeaten in every league game he has featured in following his La Liga return. A series of fine performances under Xavi has seen the youngster land a WhoScored rating of 7.26, that the fifth best of all January movers. 

4. Philippe Coutinho (Aston Villa) - 7.28 

The claret half of Birmingham was buzzing when it became clear that Philippe Coutinho was going to swap Barcelona for Aston Villa. The Brazilian dropped off the radar in the opening months of the season due to a lack of game time, but has looked back to his best under Steven Gerrard at Villa Park. Indeed, seven goals and assists combined is the third best for the Villans this season and has seen Coutinho return a WhoScored rating of 7.28 for the Midlands side. 

3. Romain Faivre (Lyon) - 7.29 

Brest's star man following his arrival from Monaco in 2020, it was no surprise one of Ligue 1's bigger sides took a liking to Romain Faivre with Lyon ultimately landing the winger on deadline day. The 23-year-old has just two goals to his name following his January arrival, both of those coming in a resounding win over Lorient earlier this month, yet he has been an impressive performer for OL in possession ranking first for key passes (2) and second for dribbles per game (2.3) for Lyon to land a WhoScored rating of 7.29. 

2. Luis Diaz (Liverpool) - 7.53 

Once Tottenham's interest in Luis Diaz became public, Liverpool quickly made their move for the Colombian. The Reds had hoped to wait until the summer before firming up their interest in Diaz, yet sealed his services in January and he has been a revelation for Jurgen Klopp's side. Fans had perhaps hoped for a better return than two league goals to his name, yet it is not for want of trying with 3.2 shots per game second only to the Premier League's top scorer Mohamed Salah (4.3) of all Liverpool players, while 1.8 key passes per game is fourth for the Reds. In addition, 2.5 dribbes per game is more than any other player of the Premier League title contenders to contribute towards a WhoScored rating of 7.53. 

1. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Barcelona) - 7.55 

The best rated new signing in Europe, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been superb for Barcelona following his capture. Aubameyang has directly contributed to a league goal in all but one of his five league starts for the Blaugrana, and saved his best rated performance in a Barcelona shirt for El Clasico, earning a 9.50 as Xavi's side trounced Real Madrid 4-0. Only Memphis Depay (10) has scored more league goals than Aubameyang (7) this season, despite only officially joining Barcelona in February, with the Gabon international's WhoScored rating of 7.55 better than any other mover in the New Year.
